Hey Songwriters!

I'm Chad Shank, and I want to help you write amazing songs that will help you reach your songwriting dreams. With over 30 years of experience in the music industry, I've had the privilege of writing thousands of songs and working with a variety of artists and songwriters in genres like pop, country, dance, and hip-hop.

In addition to running At-Home Songwriting, I also teach lyric writing with Berklee College of Music Online. I hold a Certificate in Songwriting from Berklee and a diploma in Audio Engineering from The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH. My journey in the music industry includes over 7 years of experience in commercial radio and running my own independent record label.

For more than a decade, I've been sharing my expertise in songwriting through online courses and community education programs. I also served as the Education Director for the Minnesota Association of Songwriters, where I organized songwriting workshops, lectures, and seminars to help songwriters hone their craft.

In 2021, I launched my YouTube channel, At-Home Songwriting, where I share tips, insights, and tutorials on songwriting. I also lead monthly workshops with other songwriters, encouraging them to develop their skills and achieve their goals.

My songs have been licensed and featured on TV shows across networks like HBO, MTV, WE, Fox Business, and Discovery. I've released over 300 of my songs on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, reaching a global audience.

  • Who are these courses for?

    These courses were created for independent songwriters that want to write better songs. The courses were created by a fellow songwriter that understands the desire to write better songs.

  • What if I only write lyrics?

    While the courses cover writing music at times, much of the content is focused on lyric writing. Songs are made up of Lyrics, Melodies, and Chords. We will explore all, with heavy focus on lyrics. You will learn a lot about the craft of lyric writing.

  • Are there assignments and projects to complete?

    Each course is designed to approach each chapter from 3 angles. 1. The Concept 2. Real-world Demonstration 3. Writing Exercises. You will have an opportunity to complete the exercises for the course, and you can use them to finish full songs.

  • Will I be able to get my work reviewed?

    Once you are registered you will have access to our full Online Community where you can get peer to peer feedback and reviews. The Instructor will also check in on submissions and provide feedback where possible. Feedback is a great way to learn.

  • Will you teach me how to make money with my songs?

    No. These courses are all designed to help you learn the tools and techniques to write better songs. It is about becoming a better songwriter, not a better networker, or promoter. If your songs aren't good, none of the marketing stuff matters. Also, there are plenty of places to learn that online. Let's write!

  • Will you help me with Writer's Block?

    Yes! Writer's Block is usually caused by anxiety and fear caused by not knowing what to do next. Our inner critic gets a little too bold, and we get stuck. These courses will give you tools that you can use to write when the dreaded Block sets in.
