Chad Shank

Songwriter and Songwriting Instructor

Hey Songwriter!

I’m Chad Shank, and I help songwriters take the guessing out of writing pro level songs by teaching repeatable techniques, clear processes, and practical systems that actually work. I believe great songs are not accidents. They are built with intention, clarity, and emotion using tools you can learn and trust.

Music is how we make sense of ourselves and connect with each other. I have seen firsthand how songwriting can unlock confidence, spark friendships, and give people their voice back. That belief is at the heart of everything I teach through At Home Songwriting.

I bring over 30 years of real world music industry experience to my teaching. I have written thousands of songs across pop, country, dance, hip hop, and adult contemporary, and I continue to release my own music as an independent artist. My songs have been licensed for television on networks including HBO, MTV, WE, Fox Business, and Discovery. I have released hundreds of songs across Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, and I am actively writing, recording, and releasing music today. I do not teach theory from the sidelines. I teach what I use.

Along the way, I have run an indie record label, worked more than seven years in commercial radio, and served as Education Director for the Minnesota Association of Songwriters. I teach lyric writing for Berklee College of Music Online, hold a Certificate in Songwriting from Berklee, and earned a diploma in Audio Engineering from The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio. Teaching and songwriting have always gone hand in hand for me.

I founded At Home Songwriting to create a place where writers could stop waiting for inspiration and start building songs with confidence. For over a decade, I have helped writers learn how songs actually work so they can write with clarity, finish more songs, and stay true to their voice. Since launching the At Home Songwriting YouTube channel in 2021, I have shared step by step lessons, real examples, and honest conversations about craft, process, and creative life.

If you are ready to stop guessing, trust your process, and write songs that feel both emotionally true and professionally strong, you are in the right place. I am glad you are here. Let’s write songs that connect.
